Job overview

This is an exciting time to join the MSE group as Clinical Fellow.  Mid & South Essex is a vibrant community of 5 units on three geographical sites each with a distinct profile but a shared culture, brought together in an autonomous directorate. The Directorate manages the equivalent of 46 level 3 beds (flexible mx of level 3 and level 2) across the group with over 2500 admissions a year.

Basildon general CCU is a large and busy unit serving a local population of around 450k. Basildon critical care is supported by a large, well established ARCU (Acute Respiratory Care Unit) with a large negative pressure capability and a high-performing Critical Care Outreach Team.

Main duties of the job

You will work under the direction of the duty Critical Care Consultant to deliver care to patients referred and admitted to the Critical Care unit, participating in the established service framework.  This includes participating in the morning safety huddle and handover the daily Consultant ward rounds.

You will assist with reviewing the critical care patients at the request of the bedside nurse, nurse in charge or Consultant and work as directed by the Consultant management plan, including but not limited to the ordering of investigations, chasing results, practical procedures, and usual administration tasks – Making referrals, communicating with other specialty teams both written or via telephone, including discharge summaries and transfer letters.

You will attend medical emergency, cardiac arrest and trauma calls, transfer critically ill patients (inter and intra-hospital transfers), supervise and support junior doctors working within critical care on the junior tier rota (FY2-ST2 grades).

  • Significant experience working following graduation
  • Demonstrable experience working in adult critical care

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS or Equivalent
  • Full GMC registration
  • Airway Competent

Desirable

  • Post Graduate Qualification (ALS, ARLS, IMPACT)
  • Post Graduate Examination Pass (FRCA, MRCP, MCEM)
  • Further Post Graduate Qualification (MD, Msc)
  • FICE and /or CUSIC accreditation
  • Advanced Life support accreditation
