This is replacement post/s, the remit of the postholder/s will be to work within the multi–disciplinary team providing and further developing care for patients from Child Health, and to provide and develop services to the Trust’s patients.

This role is for a middle-grade fellow to join the paediatric emergency department with a one-day per week commitment to a specialist interest in simulation, trauma or ambulatory care.

The post holder will work with the Lead for Simulation for Paediatrics and Child Health, the Lead for Simulation across the trust, the education team and technical support staff. They will work closely with the Lead for Paediatric Major Trauma, the lead for the Paediatric Emergency Department and all the Major Trauma Consultants

Main duties of the job

This post is suitable for a junior doctor at middle grade level, interested in advancing their training in paediatric emergency medicine and skills in paediatric trauma/simulation/paediatric ambulatory care. The successful candidate will also develop their administrative skills in a teaching hospital environment.

The post holder will work with the Lead for Simulation for Paediatrics and Child Health, the Lead for Simulation across the trust, the education team and technical support staff. Also work closely with the Lead for Paediatric Major Trauma, the lead for the Paediatric Emergency Department and all the Major Trauma Consultants and work closely with the Clinical Lead for Ambulatory Paediatrics and the wider multidisciplinary team.

Duties

Specialist interest: One day per week dedicated to either trauma, simulation or ambulatory care.

Clinical: Remainder of job plan spent clinical in the ED,delivering all aspects of care of medical and surgical paediatric patients presenting to the Emergency Department, supervision of more junior paediatric/emergency department colleagues in the department, general paediatric cover out of hours

Teaching: Assistance in conjunction with consultants, lecturers and more junior trainees with the teaching of undergraduates

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Responsibilities include to provide a service for Child Health, This includes all aspects of treatment and relevant management duties for the proper functioning of the Care Group.

• Shared responsibility with the other colleagues for providing 24 hours, 7 days a week cover for the Unit on a rota basis. Responsible also for covering colleagues’ periods of annual leave and short-term sickness.
• Contribution to audit and clinical governance programmes.
• Responsible for outpatient clinic commitments in peripheral hospitals as agreed with the Care Group management team, Contribute to the Care Group research interests in accordance with the Trust’s R&D framework.
• Work in conjunction with clinical and other professional colleagues to ensure that the productivity of staff within the specialty is maintained and their job satisfaction is enhanced. This may include involvement in the appraisal process for peers and/or junior colleagues The post-holder has an important responsibility for, and contribution to make to, infection control and must be familiar with the infection control and hygiene requirements of this role. The post holder would work closely with the Lead for Paediatric Major Trauma, the lead for the Paediatric Emergency Department, all the Major Trauma Consultants, and work closely with the Clinical Lead for Ambulatory Paediatrics and the wider multidisciplinary team.
