Job overview

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic doctor to join our Reproductive Medicine team as a Senior Clinical Fellow. The post holder will play a key role in delivering high-quality subfertility and assisted conception services, including coordination of IVF pathways, outpatient clinical care and multidisciplinary working.

This role offers excellent experience in reproductive medicine within a well-established and high-performing fertility service. The successful candidate will gain exposure to a broad range of fertility treatments, ultrasound practice, and assisted conception techniques while working within a supportive and multidisciplinary team environment.

The post is primarily based at West Middlesex University Hospital, with cross-site working at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital as required to support service delivery.

This post does not include a general obstetrics on-call commitment. Any additional rota participation will be agreed in advance in line with service requirements.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Participate in subfertility outpatient clinics across both sites
  • Coordinate and manage fertility treatment pathways, including IVF cycles
  • Perform and develop competency in transvaginal and transabdominal ultrasound scanning
  • Undertake procedures including intrauterine insemination (IUI), saline infusion sonography, HyCoSY, egg collections and embryo transfer.
  • Contribute to inpatient review of gynaecology patients as required
  • Liaise closely with the Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit (EPAU) and other specialties

Multidisciplinary Working

  • Prepare for and attend daily briefings and MDT meetings
  • Present patient cases and ensure appropriate investigations and referrals are in place
  • Work collaboratively with embryology, nursing, and administrative teams to ensure safe and effective patient care

Service Coordination and Management

  • Support the organisation and delivery of fertility services, ensuring smooth patient pathways
  • Facilitate NHS funding applications in collaboration with the patient liaison team
  • Maintain clinic and treatment rotas and liaise with booking teams
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation in patient records

Governance, Audit and Quality Improvement

  • Maintain clinical databases and contribute to audit activity
  • Participate in the Quality Management Programme within the Fertility Centre
  • Contribute to service development and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with HFEA standards and Trust policies

Teaching and Training

  • Contribute to teaching medical students and junior trainees
  • Support training within the fertility unit

Training and Development

  • Work under supervision of named consultants with regular appraisal and competency review
  • Develop skills in: Ultrasound scanning Fertility procedures including IUI and HyCoSy Assisted conception techniques

Person specification

Previous Experience

Essential

  • Minimum 2–3 years postgraduate experience in Obstetrics & Gynaecology
  • Experience working in gynaecology outpatient clinics
  • Experience managing patients with subfertility or early pregnancy conditions
  • Participation in audit, quality improvement or clinical governance activity

Desirable

  • Experience in IVF coordination or fertility pathway management
  • Experience in pelvic / transvaginal ultrasound
  • Experience in teaching or supervision of junior staff or students
  • Experience in fertility or assisted conception services

Physical Requirements

Essential

  • Health clearance by Occupational Health for role specified.

Education/Qualification

Essential

  • Full GMC registration with licence to practise
  • Completion of Foundation Training or equivalent
  • Primary medical qualification (MBBS or equivalent)
  • Evidence of commitment to Obstetrics & Gynaecology / Reproductive Medicine

Desirable

  • MRCOG (Part 1 / Part 2 / full)
  • Ultrasound training or relevant qualification
  • Fertility-related courses or additional training
