Senior Clinical Fellow in Obstetrics and Gynaecology

The department of Women’s Health is looking to appoint a senior clinical fellow in Obstetrics and Gynaecology equivalent to ST6 or above. The post would be appropriate to a doctor looking to complete their training through the portfolio pathway or a resident who has attained their CTT in O&G and is looking to gain additional skills or experience before taking up a consultant post.

The post can be tailored to a number of specialist interests (maternal medicine, perinatal mental health, fetal medicine, benign gynaecology, termination of pregnancy, hysteroscopy, colposcopy, gynaecological scanning) and the completion of most RCOG Special Interest Training Modules (SITMs) can be supported. There will be sessions available in clinics, theatres, outpatient procedures and scanning across the full breadth of obstetrics and gynaecology. There is the opportunity for appointees of sufficient experience to be supported to step up to consultant duties with appropriate supervision in due course.

Main duties of the job

The post will be based at Denmark Hill (with some sessions at the PRUH site) and this will be reviewed within 3 months of the postholder commencing in post.

The post holder will work within the MDT to deliver clinical care in the Women’s Health department as a member of the resident’s doctor rota. Where appropriate the postholder may have specific sessions within sub-departments or specialist areas.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

• Together with other colleagues to provide a service for patients. This includes all aspects of treatment and relevant management duties for the proper functioning of the Care Group.
• Shared responsibility with other colleagues for providing 24 hours, 7 days a week cover for the Unit on a rota basis. Responsible also for covering colleagues’ periods of annual leave and short-term sickness.
• Participation in Multi-disciplinary Meetings.
• Contribution to audit and clinical governance programmes.
• Responsible for outpatient clinic commitments in peripheral hospitals as agreed with the Care Group management team.
• Contribute to the Care Group research interests in accordance with the Trust’s R&D framework.
