Job summary

FELLOWSHIP POST IN CARDIAC AND THORACIC RADIOLOGY

Royal Papworth Hospital is the Regional centre for cardiothoracic services and has a reputation for innovation and research. Specialist services include pulmonary hypertension, transplantation, cystic fibrosis, interstitial lung disease, thoracic oncology and cardiothoracic surgery. The radiology department is very well equipped with state of the art equipment including two Siemens Force CT scanners, and 1.5/3.0T MRIs for cardiac work. The post will provide excellent experience in all aspects of cardiac and thoracic radiology. There are opportunities for research.

Radiology Cardiothoracic Fellowship/StR Post

One post is available for a period of 12 months commencing September 2026. The post is suitable for trainees who hold a current NTN. Those who are interested without an NTN, or who are post CCT could be appointed as a LAS or Trust Clinical Fellow. Specialist Registrars currently enrolled in a UK training programme (other than the East of England Deanery), who will be within 5 years when starting and wish to retain their National Training Number (NTN) whilst at Papworth, should discuss 'out-of-programme-training' (OOPT) with their Training Programme Director.

Main duties of the job

*Actively participate in all aspects of imaging within the department including leading CT and MRI lists. This includes administration of beta blockade, supervising stress examinations and 1st reporting all types of imaging examinations. Supervision of and support for the Radiographic team

*Participate fully in all aspects of the training and assessment programme

Person specification

Experience

Essential

  • *To have completed 3-4 years of training as a specialist registrar in radiology.
  • *Candidate's should be able to demonstrate clear motivation and interest in thoracic and cardiac imaging
  • *Wide experience in all aspects of general radiology
  • *Ability to work/report at least semi- independently
  • *Computer literate with data manipulation skills
  • *Evidence of participation in teaching
  • *Ability to supervise and train junior staff
  • *Experience of PACS/VR reporting

Desirable

  • *Critical appraisal of literature
  • *Good pattern recognition
  • *Reasonable manual dexterity with good eye-hand co-ordination.
  • *Demonstration of maintaining CPD
  • *Level I accreditation in cardiac CT and/or cardiac MRI

Qualifications

Essential

  • *Full GMC registration and license to practice in the UK
  • *MBBS or equivalent
  • *FRCR or equivalent

Desirable

  • Higher degree/PhD/Masters
