Senior Clinical Fellow in Anaesthesia

(Orthopaedics, General Surgery and Perioperative Medicine)

Applications are invited for enthusiastic and committed anaesthetists to join the Department of Anaesthesia at NHS Golden Jubilee University Hospital.

This post designed to provide advanced training and experience in high throughput elective anaesthesia, perioperative medicine and quality improvement within one of Europe’s leading elective surgical centres.

Successful applicants will provide general and regional anaesthesia across a range of specialties including orthopaedics, general surgery and colorectal surgery. The role includes opportunities to contribute to pre-assessment services, enhanced recovery pathways and the Acute Pain Service. Fellows will also be supported to undertake a quality improvement project aligned to the work of the anaesthetic department, with dedicated supervision and allocated time within the job plan.

NHS Golden Jubilee is home to the largest arthroplasty unit in the UK, delivering over 30% of NHS hip and knee replacements in Scotland. Supported by an £80 million Scottish Government investment, the hospital is expanding elective services, with theatre capacity increasing from 15 to 26 operating theatres.

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum of 6 years postgraduate training in anaesthesia
  • Awareness of all aspects of anaesthetic perioperative care for elective and emergency patients, with a focus on elective orthopaedics, general and colorectal patients

Desirable

  • Specialist training in Regional anaesthesia.
  • European Society of Regional Anaesthesia (ESRA) diploma
  • Previous experience of working in NHS.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Primary medical degree
  • Full GMC registration with licence to practice for the duration of the post
  • Post graduate professional qualification in anaesthesia

Desirable

  • Post CCT

  • Provides safe and effective general and regional anaesthesia, and procedural sedation, independently for all patients.
  • Ability to take responsibility for independent management of ASA 1, 2 and 3 patients.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and clearly with patients and other team members to reduce the risks associated with surgery.

Desirable

  • Leadership in clinical risk systems in Anaesthesia
  • Experience in ultrasound for regional anaesthesia
  • IT skills including use of clinical systems.
  • Understanding of the objectives of NHS GJNH
  • Core understanding of board values
