We are delighted to announce an exciting opportunity to come and work at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH), joining some of the UK’s leading surgical teams delivering excellence in orthopaedics and neuro-musculoskeletal care.

We have designed CESR development fellow posts that will deliver training similar to that provided by NHS England Education. We will provide experience in several subspecialties of orthopaedic care together with the support required to successfully complete all aspects of the CESR process. Post holders will have access to the regular weekly teaching programme run onsite for NTN T&O trainees.

You would be a participant on a 1 in 13 middle grade rota and these posts would provide an excellent opportunity for a suitable candidate wishing to increase their experience in the management of orthopaedic complex subspecialty care.

RNOH CESR development posts are designed to provide a rounded experience for successful applicants; each has a strong clinical focus alongside educational opportunities that will be the envy of any portfolio.

Main duties of the job

The CESR development fellow will work within a dynamic multidisciplinary team to support the consultants and the department in the delivery of their service. The post holder will be expected to provide advanced care management for these patients, including day to day care of in-patients, clinics and theatre sessions as well as participate in the orthopaedic registrar on-call rota. You will work alongside consultants, post CCT specialty fellows, NTN trainees, resident doctors, clinical nurse specialist and AHPs.

You should have extensive experience in orthopaedics and will gain further experience in both surgical and non-surgical management of highly complex patients.

Ward care will involve the management of post-operative patients. Although we do not have an emergency department, we receive urgent referrals from local referring units for urgent cases.

Clinics involve the review of both new and follow up patients within a secondary and tertiary setting. This is a fantastic opportunity to see a broad range of pathology and enhance clinical skills.

There are daily MDTs and the candidate will be expected to present upcoming surgical cases and ensure appropriate investigations have been completed. There will be between 3 and 4 theatre session per week - the work is specialist but the successful candidate will be encouraged and supported to improve their surgical skills over the course of the rotation.

The CESR Fellow will work within a dynamic multidisciplinary team to support the consultants and the department in the delivery of their service, providing advanced orthopaedic care in an inpatient, outpatient and theatre environment as well as participate in the orthopaedic registrar on-call rota.

Rotations are currently in Joint Reconstruction Surgery, Orthopaedic Oncology and Spinal Surgery.
