The Role
- To provide clinical leadership and expert advice to all nursing staff in the delivery of care within their
- area of responsibility including recruitment, supervision, development and deployment of unit staff.
- The post holder will have continual 24 hour responsibility for the management of the ward/department.
- The post holder will undertake regular rotational cover of the Directorate or Hospital to provide
- leadership, deal with clinical issues, immediate management issues and deploy staff as appropriate.
- To be responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development of programmes of care,
- and/or the implementation and evaluation of these programmes ensuring the delivery of high quality
- care to patients.
Please note that you must have experience at Band 6 level within an acute setting to be suitable for this role.
Duties may vary with the type of ward/department and the degree of patient dependency.
The working pattern for this role is Monday to Sunday - 12 hour shift pattern. (No nightshift requirement)
In this key role, you will:
- Responsible for the assessment of care needs and the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for patients to ensure delivery of a high standard of care.
- Provide leadership encouragement and motivation to the nursing team to ensure that the patient/and their carers remain firmly at the centre of all care delivery.
- Utilise advanced speciality skills to facilitate intervention for patients.
- To maintain effective communications with patients/carers and all members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure that the appropriate information is shared and patient/unit needs are met.
What You'll Bring:
- Registered Nurse with valid NMC Registration
- Educated to/working towards/operating at Degree Level
- Post graduate expertise within speciality / area of practice that demonstrates the required
- breadth of knowledge required to lead safety, effectively and efficiently.
- Comprehensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards within the speciality / area of
- practice
From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part-time working hours will be reduced on a pro-rata basis. A corresponding increase in the hourly rate will apply, ensuring that overall pay remains unchanged.
