We are looking for an experienced, skilled and confident Senior CAMHS Practitioner to join our ever-developing team. The successful applicant will be a caring and flexible practitioner who embraces change and thrives in a creative atmosphere. The service works in collaboration with the South London Partnership (SLP) Crisis service, which is a collaboration between Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust, South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, and South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust
The SLP CAMHS New Models of Care Programme aims to transform services through partnership-working, delivering best practice consistently to support young people and their families. The CAMHS Response Team, is a nurse led community outreach team and aims to provide assessments for Young People with mental health needs presenting with, or at risk of, going into crisis and who present at A&E departments, on paediatric wards or who are seen by Community CAMHS services.
We are currently developing a 24-hour provision within the A&E environment in which you will have a key role. We also aim to provide a range of short-term community-based assessment and treatment options for approximately 2 weeks for this group of YP and provide advice and support to parents/carers, in partnership with various internal and external agencies.
This role is an in-person role, the successful applicant will work across multiple hospital and community-based environments over a 24-hour period.
Main duties of the job
Screening of referrals
Carrying out mental health crisis assessments independently
Assessing and managing risk
Planning implementing and evaluating treatment and therapeutic interventions
Working collaboratively with the team and allied health professionals within the network including Primary Health Care, Social Care and educational establishments.

Experience and Knowledge
Essential
- Experience working in CAMHS / acute setting
- Experience of research-based / reflective practice.
- Significant relevant clinical experience.
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Experience as a preceptor / mentor
- Knowledge of clinical governance and audit
- Knowledge of adult and child safeguarding
- Knowledge of mental health legislation and of the practical application of Mental Health law.
Desirable
- Experience of taking responsibility for a ward /clinical unit or service
Education and Qualification
Essential
- • BSc Degree in Nursing (Mental Health, Pediatric, Learning Disability) or equivalent • BSc in Social work degree or equivalent • BSc in Occupational Therapy or equivalent • Professional registration with one of the following statutory bodies: • Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) • Health & Care Professional's Council (HCPC), Association of Child Psychotherapists (ACP) • The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).
