North Shropshire Community Mental Health Team is excited to be recruiting a Band 5 Community Senior Assistant Psychiatrist.

In the role you will work in an adult community mental health service, delivering a high-quality clinical psychological intervention to patients and their families.  You will be working with an identified caseload with access to regular and robust supervision.

You will be delivering psychological interventions, in accordance with an agreed care plan, to an identified group of people experiencing mental health related difficulties, under the direction of the services Clinical Psychologist.

You will work in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team and will provide Psychology interventions to support the person to meet their agreed goals and coordinate and / or participate in the review of progress towards those goals, utilising recommended outcome measures, involving the service user and any identified carer throughout the clinical pathway. You will need to travel independently over a large geographical area and will require suitable transport.

Main duties of the job

  • Under the clinical supervision of a qualified professional psychologist, assists in the formulation of the client’s difficulties and in the planning and delivery of care plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of the client’s problems in community settings.
  • Under the clinical supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist, delivers therapeutic interventions developed or guided by the qualified psychologist or otherwise defined by protocol, for individual clients and for families, including, for example, planned programmes of CBT or other appropriate psychological interventions.
  • Assists in the planning, development, coordination and delivery of therapeutic groups, including for example group approaches to emotion regulation and distress tolerance. Acts as co-therapist with qualified psychologist, other Assistant Psychologist or other designated clinician and as appropriate runs group in accordance with agreed protocol.
  • Assists in the promotion a psychologically informed approach to the understanding and management of the problems and needs of all clients within the service area covered.
  • Collaborates with other members of the MDT in case and care reviews.
  • Attends and contributes to appropriate multi-disciplinary meetings, providing a psychological perspective or psychological information in conjunction with or on behalf of the qualified psychologist who supervises their practice.
