JOB SUMMARY
The Postholder will
Provide clinical expertise and a lead role in training, education and professional development of all staff across community children’s nursing
Provide a lead role in identifying the training needs of other healthcare and external agencies in both formal and informal settings as required
Identify training needs and develop training programmes for staff within children’s nursing across community settings, including children with complex health needs in home, school and residential settings across the nursing allied health and social care programmes of care in a range of settings.
Provide a lead role in the development and implementation of in-service training and development of programmes specific to the needs of community children’s nursing.
Develop a research based approach to assess and evaluate nursing practice in children’s environment.
Provide statistical information on all education activity
Key Duties and Responsibilities
To create a culture where excellence in nursing will flourish within a child centered approach through continued education and development of staff.
Develop, plan and deliver education and skills-based programmes in response to supporting the identified needs of children within across community settings.
Work collaboratively with in-service training providers to establish mandatory training requirements and how these may be met.
Use an evidence base where available to support all training programmes
Ensure nursing procedures are in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.
Ensure robust documentation is maintained and training and development programmes are entered on trust information systems
Plan and deliver training programmes in a range of settings to both registrant and non-registrant staff.
Identify unmet training needs in home, school, residential and domiciliary care settings that currently support children with complex health needs.
Lead on education programme development and evaluation, reviewing teaching methodologies and introducing new methods as appropriate.
Monitor and assess the progress of participants undertaking in-service education programmes of study according to agreed policies.
Maintain and review Clinical Protocols which incorporate risk management strategies to support staff, including those caring for children with complex health needs in a range of environments.
Liaise with voluntary and statutory agencies for the benefit of families and education programmes.
Support Community Children’s Nursing teams with supervision ensuring a clear delegation and competency framework.
Establish links with other Health and Social Care Trusts to develop regionally agreed guidance in relation to Children’s nursing.
Undertake programmes of audit
Lead the Community Children’s Nursing team in the review and development of relevant protocols and guidelines to ensure clinically effective evidence based practice.
To independently manage own workload
Monitor and evaluate teaching programmes/protocols or care and impact on standards of care
Evaluate own practice and keep up-to-date with professional issues in the delivery of health care and education.
Participate in nursing research and standard setting in order to maintain or improve the quality of care and the dissemination of evidence.
Promote and develop good working relationships between and across professional groups.
To help staff critically evaluate the quality of clinical practice
To be actively involved in the orientation and induction of staff and students
Provide statistical information as required by Trust
To provide effective clinical leadership and act as a good role model at all times.

Have a nursing degree AND recent experience working within acute or community paediatrics, within the last 5 years.

Have a Post Graduate Qualification in Education (e.g Education modules or PGCE) or be willing to undertake within 12 -18 months.
