Main duties of the job

The Second Chef position at Agincare entails more than just cooking; it involves working with a team to enhance the quality of life for residents. Based at the Gorseway Nursing Home in Hayling Island, this role offers up to £15 per hour and a chance to earn up to £1000 through a refer-a-friend scheme. The role involves menu planning in collaboration with the home manager and residents, understanding dietary needs, and managing the kitchens daily operations. Required qualifications include a minimum of 12 months on your right to work, kitchen experience, and understanding of the IDDSI framework is desirable. The work week consists of four 10-hour shifts, including weekends, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Previous care experience is not necessary, but a background in food safety and COSHH, along with empathy and enthusiasm, is expected.

  • Menu planning -Collaborating with the home manager and our residents' requests and wishes, you will be able to develop and implement menu ideas. Our homes are always having themed days and events where you can showcase your skills and creativity.
  • Understanding dietary needs - You will work closely with the wider staff to ensure we are meeting our resident's specific nutritional and dietary needs including modified food textures and allergies.
  • Kitchen Management -You will be the main point of contact for the kitchen and responsible for the day to day running of stock management and hygiene standards

You don't have to have worked in care before, a previous role in a different catering environment is great for someone willing to learn. We'd like you to have some prior knowledge of food safety and COSHH. You will be a caring, self-motivated and enthusiastic individual who is able to show empathy to the needs of others.
