This role requires travelling to schools, you must be able to meet this requirement.

Main duties of the job

  • To assist in the provision of the school nursing service for school aged children and their families/carers, in accordance with the agreed standards/policies which promote equalities issues and monitor services to ensure that no child or family is discriminated against due to age, gender, race, culture, religion, language, disability or sexual orientation.
  • To assist and support the SCPHN in the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme within the School Nursing speciality by delivering a range of school nursing activities to improve health, reduce inequalities and safeguard children
  • To manage a delegated workload without direct supervision whilst acknowledging professional limitations in knowledge and competence.
  • Give support and advice on a whole range of issues that supports the health of child/ young person e.g. immunisation, nutrition, life style issues, emotional and behavioural issues. Promoting local and national public health messages.
  • To assist the SCPHN in the management of a defined caseload of school aged children, promoting health, preventing ill health, identifying health needs, and recognising unmet health needs by use of evidence-based practice.
  • To support and promote health to improve outcomes of children and young people within the local health economy.
  • To undertake any other duties of a similar nature consistent with the responsibilities of this post to provide a quality service
