Job summary

Aspen Medical Practice is seeking a Salaried GP to join our friendly, supportive and forward-thinking team. We believe excellent patient care depends on giving clinicians the time and support they need to work safely and sustainably. Our standard GP clinics include ten 15-minute face-to-face appointments, four protected follow-up telephone slots and 1 hour 10 minutes of protected administration time per session.

We care for approximately 32,000 patients and have invested in a large multidisciplinary team, dedicated administrative support and structured appointment templates to help reduce GP workload and support continuity of care. GPs work within a collaborative Duty Hub model, providing access to colleagues for advice and support throughout the day.

This is a permanent role for 4-8 sessions per week. Flexible working arrangements will be considered, although we are particularly interested in candidates who can work on Mondays and/or Wednesdays. The successful candidate will also participate in our Extended Access service through either an evening or Saturday session.

We welcome applicants with additional clinical interests and can support involvement in teaching, training, quality improvement and service development activities. As a training practice, we promote a positive culture where professional development, wellbeing and work-life balance are valued.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will provide high-quality, patient-centred primary care services to the registered population of Aspen Medical Practice.

Working as part of a large and supportive multidisciplinary team, responsibilities will include:

  • Providing routine and urgent GP consultations, including telephone consultations and home visits where appropriate.
  • Assessing, diagnosing and managing a wide range of acute and chronic conditions.
  • Developing patient-centred management plans in line with current clinical guidance.
  • Managing test results, clinical correspondence, prescriptions and other patient-related administration.
  • Participating in duty doctor sessions within a structured and supportive Duty Hub model.
  • Working collaboratively with pharmacists, nurses, frailty specialists, mental health practitioners, social prescribers and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Contributing to quality improvement, clinical governance and practice development activities.
  • Attending practice meetings and Protected Learning Time sessions.

Clinical Duties

The post-holder will:

  • Provide routine and urgent GP consultations, including telephone consultations and home visits where required.

  • Prescribe safely and appropriately in accordance with local prescribing guidance.
  • Maintain accurate and contemporaneous clinical records in line with GMC Good Medical Practice.
  • Process prescriptions, clinical correspondence, test results, and associated paperwork in a timely manner in line with Practice administration guidelines.
  • Refer patients appropriately to secondary care and community services.
  • Support preventative healthcare, health promotion, and chronic disease management.

  • Supervise and support members of the multidisciplinary team including, but not limited to, nurses, pharmacists, non-clinical team members.
