Job summary

Are you a passionate and dedicated GP seeking a fulfilling role in a forward-thinking practice that values work-life balance and professional growth? The Elizabeth Courtauld Surgery is delighted to invite you to consider joining our friendly and collaborative team in the growing community of Halstead. We welcome applications from both newly qualified and experienced GPs looking for 6 sessions a week, as we seek to expand our team further with additional salaried GPs.

Our experienced multi-disciplinary clinical team includes 5 GP partners, 2 salaried GPs, 2 nurse practitioners, 2 paramedics, 5 practice nurses, 4 healthcare assistants, phlebotomist, a clinical pharmacist, and a large highly committed administrative staff fostering a truly collaborative approach to patient care. We also have a wide range of additional services and support, available through our wider NHS community and primary care network, including social prescribers, MSK practitioner, young persons' mental health practitioner, and cancer care coordinators, as well as 2 additional paramedics and pharmacists.

Main duties of the job

  • Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems.
  • Screening patients for disease-risk factors and early signs of illness.
  • Developing care plans for health in line with current practice protocols.
  • Providing health education.
  • Recording clear consultation notes to agreed standards.
  • Collecting data for audit purposes and complying with QOF requirements.
  • Delivering enhanced services.
  • Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions.
  • Providing all general duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

At Elizabeth Courtauld Surgery, we believe in providing excellent patient care while fostering a supportive and engaging environment for our team members. We are a semi-rural GMS practice dedicated to serving our 17,000 diverse patient population. We opened our branch surgery, Halstead Heights Clinic, on the Halstead Hospital site in mid-April 2026.

Halstead is a historic market town within Essex situated on the River Colne, which runs through its centre. It is home to a robust network of businesses supported by wider organisations, such as the Halstead & District Chamber of Trade & Commerce, which promote independent shops, pubs, restaurants, and other services. It is situated between between Chelmsford (19 miles) and Colchester (14 miles) with good transportation and road links.

We operate from a modern purpose-built premises and leverage SystmOne and AccuRx to enhance efficiency and patient experience. We are also proud to be an established teaching practice for both Chelmsford and Colchester training programmes, offering opportunities for mentorship and development.
