The postholder will be able to gain experience in a wide range of patients whilst being supported by the appropriate junior and senior team; ward duties will represent most of the candidates working time, including consultant-led ward round; on-call duties will make up the rest.

The postholder will have access to training opportunities and funded study leave and access to an ePortfolio will be offered.

Successful applicant will start in ED before moving across to Medicine in December 2026.

Main duties of the job

This will be negotiated with the successful candidate and will depend upon their choices. On call duties will be proportional to the number of doctors within the grade (expectation is approx. 1:11 but cannot be more onerous than 1:9). Ward duties, GIM roles and the activities within the placement will fill most of the regular week, with the candidate’s choice of elective specialty activity, education and audit filling the rest of the time. The exact distribution will vary to allow for the on-call cycle, the specialty activities on offer and the needs of the service (be that the ward or the elective specialty). There is a commitment to offer the highest quality training and development that service needs will allow, while preserving at least the minimum elective time being offered.
