Main duties of the job

BAND 6

  • To be responsible for the provision and contribute to the development of clinical pharmacy services, in conjunction with the Lead Pharmacists.
  • To provide input into policy and procedures affecting the use of pharmaceuticals at both local and trust wide levels under direction.
  • To provide and participate in the following: ward–based clinical pharmacy, in-patient and outpatient dispensing (including supporting the clozapine dispensing service), patient counselling, medicines information, audit. BAND 7
  • The Senior Clinical Pharmacist will play a pivotal role in delivering a high-quality, patient-focused pharmacy service to mental health wards, forensic wards, community teams, and rehabilitation and crisis services within the Trust. This includes supporting medicines optimisation, promoting safe and effective use of medicines, and contributing to clinical governance.
  • The post-holder will supervise junior staff and trainees, contribute to education and training initiatives, and support quality improvement (QI) programs.
  • The role requires collaboration across multidisciplinary teams and external partners, with the flexibility to adapt to evolving service needs.

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE

Essential

  • 1 year’s completed pre-registration training and experience.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of hospital ward-based pharmacy service provision.
  • Experience of working with services users with mental health issues and / or Mental Health experience.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

  • GPhC registration as a pharmacist.
  • Good standard of basic education to include A levels or equivalent.
  • Master’s degree (MSc or MPharm) in Pharmacy or equivalent.

Desirable

  • Commitment to CPD evidenced through participation in suitable programmes.
