Job description
Posts are available for up to 12 months from 05 August 2026 and will provide the appointee with the opportunity to gain clinical experience and training within respiratory medicine.
Whilst this post is not recognised for subspecialty training, depending on the expectations of the appointee, we will endeavour to meet your training needs. Individual doctors should discuss their training needs with the supervising Consultant. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate good progress as evaluated by Work Place Based Assessments and Educational Supervisor review.
The post holder will be required to work under the supervision of the Consultants in the management of patients within respiratory medicine.
To work alongside consultants, specialist trainees, specialty doctors, specialist nurse practitioners and other members of the multi-disciplinary team in providing a high standard of clinical care to patients presenting within respiratory medicine. This post will not involve on-call or out of hours work.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Undertake daily review and management of patients.
- Participate in departmental education and undergraduate teaching.
- Participate in multi-disciplinary audit and attend medical staff meetings.
- Update clinical and managerial knowledge and skills.
- Provide advice and supervision for Specialty Trainees and Foundation Programme doctors.
- Carry out their duties in accordance with an agreed timetable to include some early morning, evening and on-call work. This may involve working across various sites within the Trust.
- Maintain a service to patients to include ward based procedures.
- Contribute to the continuity of care particularly in regard to admitting patients.
- Complete administrative work related to patient care and provision of accurate and timely information to patients/ carers and General Practitioners.
- Contribute to the ongoing research and quality improvement within the specialty.
- Use Trust wide and Departmental computer technology in line with the Trust’s Information Management and Technology Strategy.
- Participate in the Clinical Governance Process.
- Participate in the appraisal process for staff.
- Ensure that the principle of Public Involvement is adhered to through commitment to involving service users, their carers’, and the wider public in all decision making through a range of consultation processes.
- Attend formal induction at the start of the post, including discussion about setting achievable goals.
- Participate in continuing medical education provided in the form of clinical supervision and weekly MDT clinical/case meetings.
- Present cases at the MDT.
- Attend Monthly Hospital Audit.
- Develop and update Guidelines / Protocols.
- Attend and present at national and International meetings.
- Participate in postgraduate teaching and quality improvement within the department as far as other duties permit within the agreed times only.
- Attend regular teaching and audit meetings conducted within the speciality and participate in training appropriate to career development.
- Perform additional duties on occasional and unforeseen circumstances for which appropriate remuneration will be made.
