Job overview

The Respiratory Physiology Department at the Northern General Hospital is looking to employ a Respiratory Healthcare Science Assistant.

The post involves performing a wide range of diagnostic respiratory tests and assisting with investigations and treatment of sleep related breathing disorders.

The department has a commitment to in-house and national training schemes and all staff are encouraged to continue with personal and professional development.

We are a busy but friendly department and the successful applicant must be a well-motivated, enthusiastic individual who is flexible and can demonstrate an ability to work well both independently and as part of a team. They must also be able to demonstrate excellent inter-personal and communication skills.

Main duties of the job

Job Purpose:

  • To perform a range of physiological investigations on patients in order to aid clinical diagnosis and to provide factual reports.
  • To perform calibration and quality control on a range of equipment
  • To undertake all data documentation, clerical and admin tasks  associated admin role.
  • To provide a range of general duties to facilitate service efficiency, including stock control and infection control procedures.

Role of Department:

  • To deliver a high standard, evidence based diagnostic respiratory and sleep non-invasive support service to patients within Sheffield and the surrounding areas
  • To deliver education to healthcare professionals on respiratory physiology
  • To support staff through professional development and supervision
  • By active collaboration to continue to improve and develop the Department of Respiratory Physiology into a nationally recognised  Centre of Excellence.

  • Experience of working in patient/customer care
