The Research department provides high quality, patient centred, clinical research throughout the Trust. The role of the Research Midwife is to coordinate the delivery of clinical research studies, both commercial and non-commercial, at HHFT. As a Research Midwife, you will be responsible for assessing and managing the care pathways for patients and carers participating in these trials, facilitating high standards of care and promoting the continuity of care of trials patients. This will involve recruitment, education and monitoring of trial patients and the collection and documentation of accurate research data, all of which must be managed in accordance with ICH, GCP and the EU Directive on Clinical Trials and local HHFT SOPs. The post holder will be expected to use and continuously develop and apply relevant skills and knowledge relating to clinical trials, research methodology and requirements of local, national and international research regulations. You will work collaboratively with the wider multi-disciplinary team in the management of your caseload of clinical trial patients. You will promote the continued improvement in the care of research participants and quality of research delivery and research data. They must be able to work across all sites in Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The post holder will provide total midwifery care for both high and low risk mothers within all midwifery environments. A minimum of 6 on calls per year are required.
Main duties of the job
Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (HHFT) has an exciting new opportunity for an experienced Midwife to work in a joint role with the R & D team, working 15 hrs in maternity and 22.5 hrs in R&D per week, supporting the delivery of Clinical Research. This is an excellent opportunity for a midwife to develop and expand their career in clinical research whilst maintaining clinical midwifery skillset. The Research department is dedicated to providing high quality, patient centred, clinical research throughout the Trust.

You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to manage a research portfolio and implement and recruit to studies. Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The role of the Research Midwife is to coordinate clinical research studies at HHFT, promote research within the maternity department and increase the maternity research portfolio.
Three days a week will be spent supporting the existing research portfolio and two days per week will be clinically based within the maternity department. The post holder will provide total midwifery care for both high and low risk mothers within all midwifery environments. A minimum of 6 on calls per year are required.
As a Research Midwife you will be responsible for assessing and managing the care pathways for patients and carers participating in these trials and facilitating high standards of nursing care. You will assist the maternity department with identifying patients eligible to enter clinical trials, exploring potential barriers to recruitment and working with the co-ordinating staff and Clinical Lead to overcome them.
