Job summary
Shore Medical is seeking a Research GP to join our research team, working across our practice sites as required.
The post holder will work as a Sub-Investigator on clinical research studies, supporting the delivery of high-quality research in accordance with study protocols and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines. The role will involve the clinical assessment and ongoing care of research participants, including screening for eligibility, obtaining informed consent, undertaking clinical assessments and follow-up visits, and reviewing clinical and laboratory results to ensure participant safety and wellbeing.
We are looking for a GP with an interest in clinical research who is committed to delivering safe, high-quality patient care and maintaining the highest standards of GCP. The successful candidate will work closely with the Principal Investigator and wider research team, contributing to the successful delivery of clinical trials and ensuring participants are supported throughout their research journey.
Job Type: 12-month Fixed Term Contract commencing December 2026
Hours: 1 session per week (Thursday)
Main duties of the job
The Research GP will play an important role in the delivery of clinical trials across Shore Medical, working alongside the Principal Investigator and research team to ensure studies are conducted safely and effectively.
The role will involve clinical input throughout the research process, from assessing potential participants and confirming eligibility through to conducting study visits, reviewing investigations and monitoring participants during their involvement in a trial. The post holder will also identify and appropriately escalate any clinical concerns or significant results in accordance with study requirements.
This is an opportunity for a GP with an interest in research to contribute to the development of evidence-based healthcare while supporting patients to take part in research. The successful candidate will be organised, clinically confident and committed to maintaining high standards of participant care and GCP compliance.

Job responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities
- Working under the direct supervision of the Principle Investigator to perform the clinical trials in accordance with the ICH GCP.
- To ensure the well-being, safety and interests of all participants taking part in all clinical trials are met.
- Ensure complete understanding of the clinical trial protocol(s) to provide adequate information and explanation to potential participants to obtain written informed consent.
- Undertake and oversee the medical screening for potential participants to ensure they meet the entry requirements of each clinical trial. This may include taking observations, ECGs and venepuncture if required.
- Consider the participants eligibility for each clinical trial, according to the specific inclusion and exclusion criteria in the protocol.
- Perform ongoing follow up assessments and visits, including clinical examinations and venepuncture if required.
- Review and evaluate vital signs, ECGs, laboratory test results for all studies, ensuring that any clinically significant abnormal test results or changes from participants baselines are reported and action taking appropriately as per the protocol for example informing the Principle Investigator, Medical Monitor or Sponsor.
- Attend meetings, Site Initiation Visits for new studies as allowed in the working week.
General Requirements
- Enthusiastic in delivering research studies and ensure patients are involved in research.
- Maintain high standards of GCP compliance in all areas.
- Staying up to date with training required for each new study.
- Respond to emails in a timely fashion and be contactable by phone or email for any urgent queries that are outside contracted working days.
- Attend any conferences or courses (with the use of study leave) that are deemed beneficial for education and the research team.
