The Research Governance Assistant will;
- Manage the research governance for a portfolio of non-sponsored studies across a number of specialties within the Trust.
- Manage the review process of amendments to approved research studies.
- Manage of research passport applications within the Trust.
The Trust’s R&D Department is responsible for the governance of all research studies taking place at CPFT. The R&D department works with global, national and local partners to conduct high-quality and ground-breaking research into mental and physical health, and support innovation to improve patient care. Every year CPFT runs over 150 studies and work with over 1,500 volunteers to learn more about dementia, learning disabilities, physical and mental health and find new therapies and treatments.
Please note, this is a predominantly office based role.
Main duties of the job
- Support the Research Governance Coordinator in the review process of applications for research and for applications for the Trust to be a participating site for research, identifying any areas that are inconsistent or unclear and communicating with the researcher any changes or further information that is required.
2 Conduct a full and comprehensive governance assessment for relevant research studies.
- Take a leading role on the management of the amendments process, reviewing amendments made to research studies and independently determining if the changes made will affect research governance.
- With the support of the R&D Research Governance Coordinator and other R&D staff, provide training to researchers on the research approval/amendment process, completing the application forms and explaining the requirements of the Research Governance Framework.

- Manage the review process of research passport applications, identifying any areas that are inconsistent or unclear and communicating with researchers any changes or further information that is required
- Be proactive in identifying when a letter of access/honorary research contract is required for research and liaise with the researcher on the research passport application process and with CPFT HR and respective University HR colleagues as appropriate in order to put these processes in place
- Provide training to researchers, if required on a one-to-one basis, on the research passport process, explaining the requirements in line with national guidance
- Contribute to maintaining and developing Standard Operating Procedures, guidance and procedures for own work area and communicating any changes to those affected by them, which will include external research
- To provide regular reports and updates on CPFT R&D study activity and issues that arise for reporting to CPFT strategy groups, NIHR and the Department of Health
- To lead on the delivery of secretarial and administrative duties as required. This requires regular engagement with the relevant stakeholders.
- The post holder will be required to keep abreast with new legislation and government requirements relating to research passport process and Trust Research activity reporting to carry out their role.
- Support other areas of research administration as required.
- Actively participate in relevant R&D meetings and committees.

- Experience of working in a research environment (NHS, University, or industry)
- Experience of research set up and/or recruitment practice and processes.
Desirable
- Experience of working within NHS or University within a clinical research setting
- Experience using research databases
Skills & Abilities

- Excellent IT skills including the recording of data within electronic databases.
Education/Qualifications

- Educated to degree level or equivalent.
