Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Sandwell & West Birmingham NHS Trust. We have recently moved into our state-of-the-art, brand new, Hospital and we are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Reporting Radiographer to join our friendly team.

The post holder must have HCPC registration, a postgraduate reporting qualification in MSK and/or Chest and Abdominal reporting and demonstrate extensive clinical experience within the general x-ray speciality and/or modalities.

You should be adaptable and be able to demonstrate initiative. This role requires excellent communication skills, the ability to work flexibly and as part of a multi-disciplinary team to ensure examinations are reported to a high standard in an appropriate time frame.

We currently provide reporting services across the SWB estate which includes the new Midland Metropolitan University Hospital and our Sandwell and City Health campuses. It is expected that successful applicants are able to travel to all sites to help with the reporting services.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

  • Undertake independent image interpretation in line with their scope of practice, provide detailed written or verbal reports to the referring clinicians.
  • Be responsible for working within their own competency and referring any images outside this to a consultant radiologist
  • Be part of a team working on quality improvement ensuring consistent high quality XR images from all radiography staff and students.
  • Conduct examinations, producing high quality diagnostic images, across a range of modalities, ensuring safe practice is carried out in accordance with departmental protocols and in line with their clinical scope of practice.
  • Support the education, supervision, and training of students and newly qualified staff, providing guidance, constructive feedback, and contributing to the development of safe and effective clinical practice.

Person specification

Knowledge

Essential

  • Recent clinical experience in a busy NHS imaging department
  • Highly Specialist professional knowledge in Radiography for reporting on patient conditions, diagnosing from a range of conditions, possibly conflicting interpretation.
  • Evidence of prior participation in audit
  • Knowledge of service evaluation
  • Specialist knowledge around the governance of reporting and leading and developing these policies which may impact outside of town area.
  • Extensive knowledge of imaging protocols and IR(MR)R
  • Working knowledge of PACS / RIS / PMS / VR

Desirable

  • Evidence of service development

Experience

Essential

  • Highly developed skills for Reporting radiographic examinations of MSK and/or Chest and Abdomen
  • Highly developed specialist Knowledge underpinned by theory and experience in reporting
  • Ability to analyse and interpret highly complex information, such as interpreting and reporting on complex patient conditions, diagnosis from a range of options recommending further action
  • Highly developed skills in education, supervision, and training of students and newly qualified staff

Desirable

  • Experience in training advanced practitioners in plain film reporting

Management

Essential

  • To supervise and manage staff, including sickness reviews and PDR’s.
  • Creating training and education for the department and wider AHP’s in line with educational needs of the trust
  • Design and implement policies and procedures and develops care pathways which may impact on other areas

Desirable

  • 1st Line Management course or equivalent experience

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc in Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent
  • Current HPC Registration
  • One or all the following-MSc modules in image reporting: MSc Module-MSK Reporting / MSc Module-Adult Chest & Abdomen Plain Films

Desirable

  • Advanced Practice Accreditation
  • Specialist reporting- e.g. Paediatric/Rheumatology knowledge.
