Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Registrar in Emergency Medicine (ST3+) will work as part of the middle‑grade team within the Emergency Department at Charing Cross Hospital, providing high‑quality assessment and management of patients presenting with a wide range of acute and undifferentiated conditions. The post holder will work across all clinical areas including rapid assessment, resuscitation, majors, and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), initiating investigations, formulating diagnoses, and delivering timely treatment.
The role includes developing advanced procedural skills—such as peripheral and central venous access, arterial cannulation, chest drain insertion, and the use of point‑of‑care ultrasound—while supervising junior doctors and contributing to a supportive and progressive departmental culture. The post offers structured educational development with weekly teaching, quality improvement opportunities, and guidance toward completing RCEM examinations. The successful candidate will be trained and supported to act as a senior clinical decision‑maker, with access to secondments in Anaesthetics, Intensive Care, and Paediatrics as needed for career progression.
