Job summary
ITU is a 12 bedded combined High Dependency and Intensive Care unit that cares for patients who are critically ill; providing all aspects of nursing care and multidisciplinary rehabilitation after critical illness.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Registered Nurse to join our team. This is a challenging yet rewarding area of nursing, where the post holder will be responsible for the planning, delivery and implementation of specialised care to critically ill patients. The post holder will need to be able to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service and display personal resilience and high levels of emotional intelligence. It is expected that the post holder will work through a package of critical care competencies, contributing to continuous professional development in this specialised area, and will be supported to achieve their aspirations, alongside our team focused career pathway.
Main duties of the job
Contribute to a good working environment in which patients receive a high standard of care.
Ensure that care is patient focused, and that patient dignity and privacy are maintained at all times.
Practice in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and other appropriate guidelines.
Participate in setting standards for nursing practice and for care involving the multi-disciplinary team.
Provide support to the Matron, Senior Sister, and wider multidisciplinary team.
Ensure that all clinical and legal nursing documentation are completed accurately, legibly and confidentiality is maintained in accordance with trust policy and NMC guidelines.
Follows protocols / guidelines to give and adjust specialist non-prescribed treatment in accordance with consultant agreed unit policies and protocols.
Participate in the safe storage and administration of medicines in accordance with Trust policy.
Actively supports audit and standard setting within the critical care area.

Job responsibilities

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.
