A key function of the role is to support ED colleagues in managing behavioural risk safely and effectively, contributing actively to dynamic risk assessment discussions alongside Emergency Department clinicians. Where a patient requires formal psychiatric assessment, the post holder will escalate appropriately to the Core 24 Liaison Psychiatry team.
The role also carries an important responsibility in promoting parity of esteem between physical and mental health within the Emergency Department environment, ensuring compassionate, person‑centred care for all patients.
This position does not include undertaking specialist mental health assessments or diagnostic formulation. All psychiatric assessments and decisions regarding admission remain the responsibility of Core 24 Liaison Psychiatry and the Emergency Department Consultant in Charge.
