This is an exciting opportunity for a Registered General Nurse to join the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMF) Outpatients Department at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The successful candidate will work as part of a friendly, supportive multidisciplinary team, providing specialist nursing care to patients attending outpatient clinics and treatments. The role offers the opportunity to develop clinical knowledge and skills within a specialist surgical outpatient environment, working alongside consultants, dental nurses, orthodontic therapists and other healthcare professionals. A key aspect of the post is the delivery of nurse-led dressings clinics, which operate three days a week, alongside the provision of general nursing care and support for patients undergoing assessment, treatment and follow-up. The post holder will play an important role in ensuring patients receive safe, effective and compassionate care, while contributing to the smooth running and continued development of the service. The department offers a varied and rewarding working environment where nurses can develop their specialist knowledge, work collaboratively with colleagues and make a positive difference to the patient experience. Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides the opportunity to work within a large acute NHS Trust, supporting professional development, multidisciplinary working and the delivery of high-quality patient-centred care.
Main duties of the job
The post holder must be a Registered Nurse with current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and demonstrate the knowledge, skills and professional values required to deliver safe and effective nursing care.
The successful candidate will have good clinical assessment and communication skills, the ability to recognise and escalate concerns, and the confidence to organise and prioritise their workload in a busy outpatient environment.
They will demonstrate a compassionate and professional approach to patient care, with the ability to work independently within their scope of practice and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
The post holder must be committed to maintaining their clinical competence, undertaking mandatory training and continuing professional development. Experience in surgical nursing, wound care or outpatient services would be advantageous, although the ability and willingness to develop the relevant specialist skills are essential.
The candidate must demonstrate good organisational skills, accurate documentation, an understanding of infection prevention and control, and a commitment to patient safety, confidentiality and continuous improvement.
