An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and self-motivated nurse with strong clinical, leadership skills and expertise to join the Haemoglobinopathy (red cell haematology) nursing team as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner. This will provide an excellent opportunity to focus your advanced nursing skills on direct patient care and service development.      The post holder will be responsible for the coordination of patients’ throughout their complex care journey and now with the exiting opportunity to help develop and oversee patient pathways for gene therapy and BMT. They will work closely with the CNS team and medical team.

Within the service, there is a wide breadth of experience and the post holder will need to work across all patient cohorts, including the paediatric and young adults service, to ensure a safe service.

The role is a specialist educational resource and the post holder will be expected to facilitate the professional development of junior nurses in the department. The post has full administrative and data management support.

You will be actively involved in patient care throughout UCLH, as a Specialist Haemoglobinaopthy Centre (SHT) as well as work across The Red Cell Network Haemoglobinopathy Co-ordinating Centre (HCC). The post holder will support outreach services in regard to gene therapy and play a key part in expanding this service.

Main duties of the job

The haemoglobinopathy service is part of the renowned haematology and cancer nursing service at UCLH and we provide professional development, both in-job and through post graduate pathways. You will have the opportunity to attend national and international conferences. In return, we are seeking highly motivated graduate candidates with a strong nursing background, including substantial Haemoglobinopathy/Haematology experience and having completed or working towards a postgraduate qualification.

This exciting new role involves lifelong care for patients with haemoglobinopathies, including bone marrow transplantation and gene therapy.

As a haemoglobinopathy Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP), you will provide expert clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of patients with complex conditions. Working autonomously and as part of the multidisciplinary team, you will deliver high-quality, evidence-based care, contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives. The post holder will undertake clinics for routine follow ups and treatment planning, help develop pathways and deliver care for patients undergoing curative therapies and provide care for those accessing urgent/emergency care.

The role involves leadership, education, and supporting colleagues to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centred care across the service. You will need to be an independent prescriber and to have completed and advanced physical assessment course.
