Job overview

Are you an experienced radiotherapy professional ready for the next step in your career? An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and experienced therapeutic radiographer to join the Late Effects and Review teams at Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre.

This is an exciting opportunity to support patients through their radiotherapy treatment and help shape the continued development of a service supporting people living with the longer-term effects of radiotherapy. You will provide expert assessment, advice and management of radiotherapy acute and late side effects attending new patient and follow-up clinics, both in the Trust and at other sites.

You will work autonomously while collaborating closely with clinical oncology, radiotherapy and wider multidisciplinary teams. You will also build effective partnerships across the Trust, primary care, voluntary organisations and regional services to improve awareness and access.

This exciting opportunity spans both our Radiotherapy Late Effects and On-Treatment Review services. We welcome applications from candidates interested in undertaking the full role across both services, however we would also be happy to consider applicants wishing to focus on either the Late Effects (22.5 hours per week) or Review (15 hours) element of the post.

Main duties of the job

As Late Effects/Review Therapeutic Radiographer, you will combine specialist clinical practice with service development and professional leadership.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Plan and coordinate the on-treatment review clinics for patients attending for radiotherapy treatment.
  • Running new patient and follow-up clinics and undertaking specialist assessment of complex radiotherapy late effects.
  • Providing expert advice on symptom and side-effect management, recommending and reviewing treatment and care interventions.
  • Assessing patients’ psychosocial needs and coordinating appropriate onward referrals and support.
  • Prescribing within your professional scope of practice, where appropriately qualified.
  • Working collaboratively with clinical oncology, radiotherapy and wider multidisciplinary teams.
  • Leading service improvement, clinical governance, audit, evaluation and research relevant to late effects.
  • Working with the South West Radiotherapy Late Effects Service to promote consistent standards, expertise and data collection across the region.
  • Developing standards of care, supporting colleagues through education and training, contributing to audit and research, and ensuring the service continues to evolve in response to evidence and patient need.
