Job overview

Are you interested in developing the next generation of Radiographers?  In this 12-month fixed-term role you would be working alongside the radiology management team, placement education facilitators, and representatives from the University to provide a robust and valuable clinical education programme for a range of learners including undergraduate Diagnostic Radiographers and apprentices.  The role requires a dynamic and flexible person who has excellent clinical skills and a desire to pass skills and knowledge on in a manner that is accessible and suitable. You would be responsible for teaching and assessment, creating rotas for students that provide a range of experience, and ensuring students achieve and maintain a high level of clinical knowledge.  The radiology department plays a crucial role in the accurate and timely diagnosis of cancer patients, and our mission is to empower staff to use their best practice, and evidence-based research, to provide the best possible patient-centred care they can. Instilling these values into learners will lead to a future workforce that is committed to delivering exceptional patient care, and a desire to continually improve their knowledge throughout their careers.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for undergraduate students from the University of Cumbria across three years of the degree course. The student rotation includes placement at another hospital and so close liaison with the clinical tutor there is fundamental to the success of the rotation. As well as undergraduate students you will be instrumental in coordinating clinical experience for the apprentice APs and apprentice Radiographers within the department, as well as working with the trust team to facilitate work experience placements, and elective placements.  Within the role you will be creating and managing rotas for the students, ensuring the educational burden on each department is sustainable and that the students receive a diverse, equitable, experience across multiple modalities. Accurate record keeping is essential, as well as having excellent communication skills to be able to liaise between the department and the university. Within this role you will also be responsible for providing pastoral care to the students.  The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic dynamic individual with a commitment to supporting students, visitors and staff. There will be an expectation for you to have some flexibility to attend relevant meetings e.g. at the University of Cumbria, clinical tutor’s forum, to support recruitment and occasional extended day working.
