JOB SUMMARY
To participate in the provision of both General X-ray and DXA services in SEHSCT ensuring the highest possible standard of radiographic technique and personalised patient care are delivered for both these services at all times.
There will be a requirement to work on other SEHSCT sites.
KEY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
Operational Delivery
Undertake a wide range of imaging procedures to a high standard.
On successful completion of Certificate of Competence in Bone Densitometry, perform DXA scan lists and undertake technical reporting sessions.
Make decisions based on professional knowledge and experience.
Required to maintain a high personal standard of clinical excellence.
Assess patient understanding of the proposed imaging examination and where appropriate gain informed consent or work within the required legal framework with patients who lack the capacity to consent to an imaging examination.
Maintain good communication with patients/clients and relatives/carers ensuring that their individual needs are met and address any issues which have been identified.
Be familiar with and adhere to the Ionising Radiation Regulations (NI) 2017 and Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations (NI) 2018.
Ensure the safe use and maintenance of highly specialist imaging equipment and adhere to all departmental safety procedures.
Support the Lead in achieving a smooth and efficient patient workflow for DXA and provide cover when the Lead is not available.
Participate in audit, reflective practice and risk management to ensure optimum standards of care.
Quality
Provide leadership and supervision to radiographers and more junior grades in difficult situations such as very busy periods and with patients requiring multiple examinations.
Delegate appropriate tasks and supervise less experienced radiographers to achieve the desired quality of patient care.
Ensure that the Trust behaviours are upheld at all times and that poor behaviour is challenged or escalated where a one-to-one conversation is not possible or appropriate.
Ensure that checks are done in the area of work to ensure that all images have been sent to PACS and that all referrals have been addressed.
Actively contribute to the content and development of policies/procedures.
Have an understanding and knowledge of the patient’s condition and how it affects their life.
Be aware of your responsibility for keeping patient’s confidences at work and outside work and act with discretion to prevent patient information being shared inappropriately.
In the event of an imaging examination being interrupted outside an emergency the patient should be offered an explanation.
Knowledge of The Quality Mark Scheme in order to assist in the departmental preparation for inspection.
Professional Responsibilities
Maintain HCPC registration and provide evidence of details.
Ensure staff are aware of and act in accordance with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, protocols and Codes of Conduct.
Responsible for undertaking annual staff appraisal conversations and ensure that staff have a Personal Development Plan.
Identify and address poor performance and practice including image quality and discuss with the Lead.
Ensure personal and professional development in accordance with the Health Care and Professions Council (HCPC).
Initiate and/or participate in staff induction and training as required.
Attend post-registration training and education courses as directed by the RSM.
Demonstrate commitment through regular attendance, efficient completion of duties and participation in departmental team work activities.
Contribute to a safe environment within the Risk Management and Clinical Governance Strategy.
Ensure effective and economic use of resources and the safe working order of all equipment.
Report all near miss and incidents and record using the DatixWeb.
