Job overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and forward-thinking Registered Midwife to join our Maternity Governance Team as a Quality & Safety Midwife (PMRT & ATAIN). This is a unique opportunity for a midwife with a passion for patient safety, quality improvement and learning from care reviews to make a real difference to outcomes for women, babies and families across our Trust.
Working closely with maternity, neonatal, governance and bereavement colleagues, you will support the delivery of our quality and safety agenda through the coordination and facilitation of the Perinatal Mortality Review Tool (PMRT) and Avoiding Term Admissions into Neonatal Units (ATAIN) programmes. You will help ensure that reviews are undertaken effectively, learning is identified and shared, and improvements are translated into meaningful change in clinical practice.
This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop expertise in maternity governance, patient safety, audit, quality improvement and national maternity safety programmes, while remaining connected to clinical practice and improving care at a service-wide level.
Main duties of the job
You will be passionate about improving safety, quality and outcomes for women, birthing people, babies and families.
You will bring:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organisational abilities and attention to detail.
- Interest in clinical governance, patient safety and quality improvement.
- Ability to analyse information, identify themes and contribute to service development.
- Confidence working collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
- Compassion, professionalism and a commitment to learning and continuous improvement.
Experience of PMRT, maternity governance, audit, incident review, quality improvement, Datix, PSIRF, SEIPS methodology or patient safety work would be advantageous, but is not essential, as development and support will be provided.
- Coordinating and supporting PMRT and ATAIN review processes in line with national requirements.
- Supporting the dissemination of learning and monitoring progress against safety recommendations and action plans.
- Contributing to quality improvement initiatives across maternity and neonatal services.
- Supporting compassionate engagement with families throughout review processes, ensuring their perspectives are heard and considered.
- Preparing reports, reviewing data and presenting findings through governance and quality forums.
- Working collaboratively across maternity and neonatal services to improve outcomes and reduce avoidable separation of babies and families.
