Working with our current public health midwife, we are looking for a motivated, forward‑thinking midwife with a passion for public health and improving outcomes for women, birthing people, babies, and families.

You will need to demonstrate initiative, innovation, and the ability to drive improvement across maternity public health priorities, working proactively with colleagues and partners to effect meaningful and sustainable change.

The public health remit within maternity services is broad and continually evolving, and this role is pivotal in leading, coordinating, and embedding key public health priorities across the maternity pathway.

You will play a crucial role in improving outcomes for women, birthing people, babies, and families, with a particular focus on reducing health inequalities and supporting our most vulnerable populations.

You will work closely with a wide range of key stakeholders, including multidisciplinary maternity teams and local and regional public health teams, to ensure national and local public health priorities are translated into high‑quality, evidence‑based practice.

This collaborative approach will support prevention, early intervention, and personalised care, helping to deliver equitable and inclusive maternity services.

  • Provide professional leadership for the maternity public health agenda, ensuring alignment with national and local priorities.
  • Lead and coordinate stop smoking in pregnancy pathways, working with local stop smoking services and public health teams to improve access, uptake, and outcomes.
  • Support maternity teams to deliver consistent, evidence‑based public health interventions, including CO monitoring, referral, and very brief advice.
  • Lead and coordinate healthy weight, nutrition, and physical activity in pregnancy work streams, working with local services and public health teams to improve access, uptake, and outcomes.

Lead key public health workstreams across maternity services, including:

  • Reducing health inequalities and improving outcomes for vulnerable groups
  • Healthy weight, nutrition, and physical activity
  • Immunisation uptake
  • Work collaboratively with local and regional Public Health teams, LMNS/LMS partners, and multidisciplinary maternity teams.
  • Lead audit, evaluation, and quality improvement activity linked to maternity public health priorities.
  • Provide education, guidance, and professional leadership to support staff confidence and capability in public health practice.
