NHS Talking Therapies have dedicated teams of Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners (PWPs), Cognitive Behavioural Therapists and Counsellors who offer a range of support to help people make positive changes to reduce stress and anxiety and improve their wellbeing.

We have vacancies for qualified PWPs who are passionate about providing meaningful and effective therapeutic experiences to address common mental health problems.

Applicants without the aforementioned qualifications will not be considered.

NHS Talking Therapies offer accessible screening, assessment and treatment for mild to moderate mental health problems, giving service users a greater degree of choice and flexibility by providing an extensive menu of therapies including psycho-education courses &group work  as wel l as 1-1 work .  PWPs also have an important link role developing relationships with local GP practices and communties

Our team members are encouraged to develop specialisms by taking on champion roles such as long term conditions, young people, safeguarding, LGBTQ+, older adults and drugs and alcohol.

As part of the role you will be expected to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service. This may include early morning and late evening appointments.

Main duties of the job

To provide high quality primary care Talking Therapies services to people aged 16 or older with common mental health problems (depression and anxiety disorders).

To work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of team policies and procedure.

To deliver Talking Therapies services in accordance with NICE guidelines, within agreed activity levels and model, meeting required key performance indicators (KPIs).

To provide advice and consultation on client’s care, to other clinicians and to non-professional carers.

To promote wellbeing and social inclusion.

To work flexibly and in accordance with service demands. This may include support or clinical supervision of band 4 practitioners where appropriate.

To work to the agreed number of clinical contacts per week as set by the Team Lead.

Person specification

Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of NHS structures and policy within a primary care context.
  • Ability to cope with unpleasant working conditions.
  • Ability to self-reflect and use clinical supervision appropriately.

Desirable

  • Extensive clinical and theoretical knowledge of more than 1 model of psychological therapy
  • Experience of working with particular clientele, e.g. psychosexual counselling or ethnic minorities.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of psychological work with common mental health problems
  • Experience of short-term time-limited work.
  • Evidence of regular supervised practice.
  • Experience of promoting wellbeing and social inclusion.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Completion* of a recognised qualification for the role e.g. PWP Post Graduate Certificate (or Qualified Graduate Mental Health Worker with a 2022 competency certificate)
  • Registration as PWP with BABCP or BPS (completed or in progress)* Registration as PWP with BABCP or BPS (completed or in progress)*

Desirable

  • Training in other psychological therapies
