Job overview

To apply for this role, you will have successfully completed existing training on a nationally recognised post graduate Talking Therapies (IAPT) low intensity programme. This will include how to improve knowledge on a range of mental health issues, and how to provide a range of brief solution focused interventions for adults who are experiencing mild to moderate emotional difficulties, particularly anxiety and depression.

You will be able to access further training and staff development, as well as our robust supervision and governance systems. You will have excellent communication skills and a real interest in and knowledge of working with adults experiencing a range of mental health difficulties and psychosocial problems in a primary care setting. Enthusiasm, confidence and the ability to work flexibly and without close direction are essential. This exciting role will involve providing brief evidence based interventions in primary care and supporting mental health promotion initiatives within the community. Under supervision you will deliver Step 2 CBT interventions, including guided self-help, computer aided CBT, group work and signposting. These interventions will be offered from community venues across the borough as well as from the team base and other locations as appropriate. Interventions will be primarily telephone based, but also include some face to face and video sessions as required.

Main duties of the job

  • Under supervision, to manage a caseload of clients who have mild to moderate anxiety and/or depression referred and assessed by the GP, other professionals or self-referred. This includes assessments and treatments.
  • To support and assist patient referral to other services as appropriate.
  • In collaboration with colleagues and under supervision, to provide a range of evidenced based brief interventions using guided self-help methods
  • To ensure that work is patient focused, responsive to need and culturally competent and sensitive
  • To facilitate the development and running of self-help groups, activities and use of self-help material, information and other mental health resources as appropriate
  • To support general practice staff and community and primary care organisations as appropriate in their management of patients with mental health needs
  • To attend and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings as appropriate.
  • To engage in health promotion and outreach work directed towards local communities and in particular those groups under represented within the service through community workshops and liaison with community leaders and organisations.

We operate a hybrid working policy which means all staff are required to come on site to team bases to offer in person appointments, attend supervision and meetings, and combine this with remote working.
