Do you want to be part of an innovative and dynamic Talking Therapies service? Are you an experienced BABCP registered Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP) who is passionate about providing high quality evidence-based psychological therapy to people with common mental health problems?

The successful candidate will have completed either a Talking Therapies (formerly IAPT) PWP course or an equivalent Post Graduate Certificate in Primary Mental Health Care, and have experience of working in a Primary Care setting, preferably a Talking Therapies service. The successful candidate(s) should also have completed an approved NHSE  Long Term Conditions Low Intensity training course or be willing to undertake this when in post.  The successful candidate must also hold Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner registration with BABCP.

This is an exciting time for NHS Blackpool Talking Therapies.  We’re continually improving our service and looking at innovative ways of delivering therapy and increasing access. The service is focused on delivering high quality therapy,  You’ll have the opportunity to be part of a fantastic team of staff who are genuinely committed to improving the lives of our service users. The team includes CBT therapists, Counsellors and Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners, providing psychological assessment and brief therapies to people with mild to moderate anxiety and depression.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work within the NHS Blackpool Talking Therapies service providing low intensity interventions to clients with mild to moderate common mental health problems. This will involve undertaking assessments, delivering step 2 evidence based treatment interventions with clients face to face, via telephone, or video link, the development and delivery of step 2 groups, and engaging in regular clinical and case management supervision. Working from a range of community bases and effectively managing a caseload of clients.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To undertake patient-centred assessments to identify areas where the person wishes to see change and or recovery and makes an accurate assessment of risk to self and others.

To make decisions on suitability for Talking Therapies adhering to the department’s referral protocols, refers unsuitable clients on to the relevant service or steps-up the person’s treatment to high intensity psychological therapy.

To adhere to an agreed activity contact target relating to the overall number of client contacts and clinical sessions carried out per week in order to minimise waiting times and ensure treatment delivery remains accessible and convenient.

To make detailed clinical notes and complete all requirements relating to data collection within the service.

To utilise outcome measures with clients in every clinical contact.

To engage in regular case management and clinical supervision.

To participate in the planning and facilitation of groups as and when required by the service.

Person specification

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

  • Qualification from Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP)Training Course (Post Graduate Certificate ) OR equivalent e.g. Experienced and Qualified Graduate Mental Health Worker (Qualification in Post Grad Primary Care Mental Health) with relevant Primary Care experiences.

Desirable

  • Training in nursing, social work, occupational therapy, counselling or within a psychological therapy.
  • Psychology or other health related undergraduate degree.
  • Psychology or other health related postgraduate degree

SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES

Essential

  • Ability to manage own caseload and time
  • Demonstrates high standards in written communication
  • Ability to evaluate and put in place the effect of training
  • Computer literate
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, including telephone skills
  • Able to develop good therapeutic relationships with clients
  • Ability to work within a team and foster good working relationships
  • Ability to use clinical supervision and personal development positively and effectively
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Regard for others and respect for individual rights of autonomy and confidentiality
  • Ability to be self reflective, whilst working with service users, in own personal and professional development and in supervision
  • Car driver and/or ability and willingness to travel to locations throughout the organization

Desirable

  • Fluent in languages other than English

EXPERIENCE / KNOWLEDGE

Essential

  • Evidence of working with people who have experienced a mental health problem
  • Experience of working in Primary Care Services, such as a Talking Therapies service.
  • Worked in a service where agreed targets in place demonstrating clinical outcomes
  • Received training (either formal of through experience) and carried out risk assessments within scope of practice
  • Demonstrates an understanding of anxiety and depression and how it may present in Primary Care
  • Demonstrates a knowledge of the issues surrounding work and the impact it can have on mental health
  • Knowledge of medication used in anxiety and depression and other common mental health problems
  • Demonstrates an understanding for the need to use evidence based psychological therapies and how it relates to this post

Desirable

  • Evidence of working in the local community
