Job overview

We are seeking one enthusiastic and experienced Cognitive Behavioural Therapist, Clinical Psychologist, or Counselling Psychologist to join our Getting Help Service as a Psychological Therapist.

The role combines the delivery of evidence-based psychological interventions with wider responsibilities that support service quality and workforce development. Alongside managing a clinical caseload, the successful candidate will provide clinical supervision and support to Children’s Wellbeing Practitioners and other members of the workforce, helping to develop clinical skills, maintain high standards of care, and promote best practice.

The post holder will play an active role in service leadership, contributing to service development, pathway improvement, quality initiatives, and the implementation of evidence-based practice. Working closely with operational and clinical leaders, they will help shape and enhance the delivery of psychological therapies across the service.

Working within a dynamic, skilled and supportive multidisciplinary team and supported by senior clinicians, you will deliver high-quality psychological assessments, formulations and evidence-based interventions. You will conduct risk assessments, develop and implement risk management plans, and liaise with external agencies where required. The role includes providing safe, effective therapy aligned with service objectives, and engaging in supervision and ongoing professional development.

Main duties of the job

  • Conduct specialised clinical assessments and develop clear and detailed psychological formulation of the service user’s presenting difficulties using evidence based cognitive behavioural models of understanding.
  • In collaboration with service users and multi-disciplinary colleagues, develop personalised treatment plans based on service user needs, assessment findings, formulation of the presenting problems, and evidence of effectiveness to support recovery goals and improve quality of life.
  • Deliver evidence based cognitive behavioural therapy using a range of specialist knowledge and techniques, and adapting interventions based on evolving needs and formulations.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team clinicians and multi-agency representatives to ensure the delivery of integrated and psychologically informed care.
  • In line with experience and role development plans, provide CBT supervision and mentorship to junior clinicians and trainees, contributing to their professional development and enhancing the interventions they offer.
  • Support and engage in research activities as indicated, adding to the evidence base for practice, and participate in development activities and quality improvement initiatives, to enhance the overall effectiveness of clinical services.

  • Accreditation with British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapy

Essential

  • Experience of completing CBT assessments, formulations and interventions and autonomously managing a caseload in a specialist healthcare setting relevant to the service area
  • Experience of providing, and adapting where necessary, CBT assessments, formulations and interventions with service users relevant to the service area
  • Experience of delivering CBT with services users (and their carers/families) presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the range of settings, maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse
  • Experience of dealing with highly distressing or emotional circumstances, such as serious mental illness, child and sexual abuse, exploitation, and complex family dynamics
  • Experience of working effectively in a multi-disciplinary team and multi-agency environment
  • Experience of service development and carrying out clinical audit and evaluative research and applying the findings
  • Experience of working with, and addressing issues of, diversity, including experience of working with multiculturalism, and equality of access

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrable knowledge of CBT theory, models and principles, and techniques, as well as evidence-based practice, relevant to the service area
  • Knowledge and understanding of service evaluation, audit and research and of completing this in the NHS
  • Awareness of other therapeutic modalities and their integration with CBT for comprehensive treatment planning
  • Skills in delivering individual and group therapy sessions using CBT techniques to address diverse mental health needs
  • Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, technical and/or sensitive information to service users, their carers/families and professional colleagues, both within and outside the NHS
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, with the ability to support, influence and engage with clinicians, stakeholders and service users to enable changes and improvements
  • The ability and skills to act as an advocate for the service, to engage and foster good professional relationships with all health professionals in promoting the good integration of this service with the wider health care system
  • Advanced IT skills and ability to navigate various systems and software packages (e.g. RiO, Outlook, databases, MS office/Teams, One Consultation and the internet)

Education/Qualifications/Training
