Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for suitable pharmacists to move into full time clinical roles where you will be given the experience and support necessary to progress to being a band 7 clinical pharmacist.

We’re looking for pharmacists with strong clinical knowledge who are ready to progress their career in clinical pharmacy. This is a fantastic opportunity for personal development and will give you the chance to experience all of the departments within Division B (Acute medicine unit, emergency department, inpatient medicine wards and elderly Care). You’ll spend 9 months in each section and your responsibilities will vary depending on which area you are assigned but will include supporting ward rounds and attending multidisciplinary team meetings. Rotations include AMU, Respiratory, Medicine for older people, Hepatology, Gastroenterology and General medicine

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

What you’ll do

• Provide a clinical pharmacy service to the area that you have been assigned, with the opportunity to specialise and develop the service to your chosen speciality. 2.    Support the Senior Care Group Pharmacist in the provision of a specialist pharmacy service. 3.    Undertake project work to support both the specialty and your own development

You will be expected to work: -    1 in 5 late nights until 7pm -    1 in 6 weekends (working either Sat or Sun)  -    All staff are required to contribute to extended hours, weekends & bank holidays as part of core hours.  This includes general dispensary duties such as dispensing prescriptions and clinical pharmacy duties.

What we’re looking for An enthusiastic, patient-focussed pharmacist, committed to team working with good communication skills.  We can provide additional training and development to support you.  This will be particularly effective alongside the postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy.

As a department we have a strong commitment to continuing professional development and training. The post-holder will have the opportunity to undertake further study (e.g. MSc) in either clinical or management qualifications. You will be supported by an established Medicines Management Service, a team of specialist pharmacists and an experienced lead care group pharmacist in each area.

Applicants who can demonstrate that they already meet the required competencies may be offered a Band 7 contract upon appointment.

About the team:

Division B (Medicine and Elderly Care) is the largest clinical pharmacy team in the Trust, covering over 20 inpatient wards, the emergency department and several outpatient areas. You will become part of a well-integrated and highly valued team, working closely alongside consultants, junior doctors and ward nurses. You will be well supported by a team of medicines management technicians and senior assistant technical officers (SATOs) to deliver clinical pharmacy services to the wards. You will be warmly welcomed into the Division B pharmacy team where you will have the opportunity to meet regularly with the pharmacists, technicians and SATO’s to have your say in the strategic and day-to-day operation of the pharmacy service to Division B.  We are proud of our use of technology to communicate with each other and the wards, and regularly try new ways to make small improvements in the way we work and the service we deliver.  You will be encouraged to support these service developments and run projects of your own.
