Are you looking for the next step in your career?  Are you a Chief Pharmacist of the future?  If so, they we have the perfect role for you!  Following an establishment review, a unique opportunity has been created to join the pharmacy team at the Luton & Dunstable University Hospital (LDH) as Principal Pharmacist for Operations.

As a direct report to the Head of Pharmacy (LDH) & Deputy Chief Pharmacist, you will be a key member of the pharmacy senior leadership team, providing input into the strategic direction of the pharmacy department.  You will be a vital cog in the operational delivery of the pharmacy service, whilst at the same time playing a key role in the delivery of medicines supply, clinical pharmacy, medicines optimisation and service innovation.

Working alongside other departmental operation leads, you will co-lead on the operational management of the pharmacy service,  whilst utilising your experiences to expertly link the medicines supply and clinical aspects of the service in order to support an ever evolving pharmacy portfolio.

Main duties of the job

  • 1.    Support the Head of Pharmacy (LDH) & Deputy Chief Pharmacist in the management, leadership, governance & strategic development of pharmacy operations in order to meet national standards in hospital pharmacy, medicines optimisation, regulatory requirements & professional standards. 2.  To ensure the operational effectiveness of the pharmacy service is maintained at all times in line with the Pharmacy Services Strategy. 3.   To co-lead on the operational management and delivery of the pharmacy service at LDH in conjunction with other departmental operation leads. 4.  To provide professional leadership  by role modelling professional behaviours and demonstrating a personal commitment to quality & medicines optimisation, which is consistent with Trust priorities and is aligned to the over-arching patient focussed ethos of the pharmacy service. 5.      To be responsible for the development of effective processes for monitoring, analysing and managing performance in pharmacy, identifying when capacity and performance fall below the key operational delivery objectives and taking corrective action where appropriate. 6.   To maintain a regular clinical commitment in accordance with the experience and expertise level expected of a Principal Pharmacist.  Area of practice to be defined by post holder’s experience and breadth of knowledge. 7.  Utilise non-medical prescribing qualification to actively prescribe and optimise drug therapy for defined cohort of patients.
