Clinical Psychologist Band 7-8a Developmental Post
We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated, enthusiastic and skilled Clinical Psychologist passionate about working with Care Experienced Young People in the CAMHS Children in Care Teams in North Lincolnshire and Doncaster (RDASH CAMHS).
We welcome applications from newly qualified, or soon to be qualified, Clinical Psychologists looking to develop their skills, and from more experienced Clinical Psychologists looking to take the next step in their career.
The successful candidate will have experience and knowledge of working with Care Experienced young people and of trauma informed models of care and intervention.
Training in Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy and/or Theraplay would be useful but we would also accept applications from individuals with experience of these approaches and those who would be willing and able to attend further training in these areas
The post holder will join an established multidisciplinary team. The service model in North Lincolnshire CIC CAMHS includes providing consultation to adults supporting children and young people, assessment, formulation and therapeutic interventions for children and young people and training to foster carers.

Main duties of the job
- The successful candidate will provide specialist psychological assessment of children and young people with complex presentations and histories of trauma, loss and attachment disruption. You will be able to interpret and integrate information and data from a variety of sources.
- As an autonomous clinician you will be expected to have excellent communication skills and be able to provide consultation to families, schools, social workers and other professionals in a young person’s care network.
- You will be responsible for identifying and reporting concerns regarding the safeguarding of children who may be at risk.
- You will undertake risk assessments and risk management plans for individual young people and provide specialist advice to other professionals on psychological aspects of risk assessment and risk management.
- You will formulate plans for specialist psychological therapy and/or support of a young person’s mental health conditions based upon an appropriate conceptual framework and evidence-based practice. You will skilfully negotiate the implementation of agreed plans with young people and/or their carers and others in the care network.
- You will be expected to implement a range of specialist psychological therapies for individual young people, carers, families and groups, adjusting and refining psychological formulations as required.

Knowledge
Essential
- Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management.
- Skills in evidence based psychological interventions.
- Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinical sensitive information to clients, their family, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
- Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
- Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex multivariable data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology.
- Evidence of CPD (Band 8a only)
- Formal training in supervision of other psychologists (Band 8a only)
- Able to work effectively in a team setting

- Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological assessments and therapies

Experience
Essential
- Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings.
- Experience of working in multi-agency teams and with a wide variety of client groups which reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems and the threat of physical abuse
- Demonstrate further specialist training/experience through having received a minimum of 50 hours clinical supervision of working as a specialist clinical psychologist and appropriate experience or an alternative agreed by the Head of Psychology (Desirable at Band 7)

Qualifications
Essential
- Doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996)
- HCPC registered practitioner psychologist
- Continued professional development through structured self-study, specialist clinical supervision, and/or relevant combination of short courses (Desirable at Band 7)
Desirable
- Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice

Essential
- The capacity to tolerate frequent exposure to unpredictable working conditions including demanding, verbally and possibly physically aggressive clients
- Ability to contain and work with organisational stress and to maintain high quality clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and stressful conditions
- Ability to take care of oneself (and others) in a pressured work with minimal supervision in an environment with difficult clients and high stress job demands
- Ability to teach and train others, using a variety of complex multimedia materials for presentations within public, professional and academic settings.
- Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate to support and maintain clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive behaviour.
- Ability to administer accurately and speedily complex psychometric test materials
- Capacity to concentrate intensely for clinical work
