The Primary Mental Health Worker (PMHW) will provide specialist mental health support, consultation, advice, and provide direct assessment and intervention to the children and young people within the locality. An element of the role will involve providing training to stakeholders across the Primary Care Network (PCN) as commissioning arrangements. The post holder will support the early identification of emotional wellbeing and mental health needs in children and young people and promote timely intervention through consultation, training, and direct clinical work.
The post holder will play a key role in developing and maintaining effective partnerships across the locality, supporting the implementation of the THRIVE framework and promoting early help approaches. They will deliver brief therapeutic interventions and work using the ACBI model, undertake comprehensive psychosocial assessments, provide consultation to professionals and families, and contribute to service development initiatives that improve access to mental health support for children, young people and their families.
Main duties of the job
Job overview An opportunity has arisen to join the Chorley South Ribble Community Young People’s Mental Health (CYPMH) team as a Primary Mental Health Worker. The Primary Mental Health Worker (Band 6) will provide assessment, formulation and delivery of evidence-based interventions for children and young people presenting with mild to moderate mental health difficulties. The post holder will work autonomously within defined protocols, offering timely support to prevent escalation to specialist CAMHS services.
The role involves close multi-agency working with families, schools and partner services, including consultation, advice and training to education staff to support early intervention and promote emotional wellbeing. The post holder will adhere to safeguarding policies and procedures, ensuring safe and effective service delivery.
The PMHW will support the wider team in managing demand, improving access and maintaining service performance. This is a fixed- term post to provide maternity leave cover, ensuring continuity of care for children and young people accessing the service.

- Ability to think systemically and holistically
- Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of children and young people’s emotional and mental health.
- Clinical/safeguarding risk assessment skills

- Experience of working post qualified in a child and adolescent mental health team or equivalent.
- Able to work autonomously with confidence in own abilities and knowledge.
- Experience and evidence of working with childhood: emotional and psychological development.
