Pre SACT Chemotherapy Support Worker

This part time hybrid role will play an integral part within the Pre SACT (Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy) assessment service and also will be vital within the chemotherapy suite, as a support worker.

This role includes the provision of individualised nursing care and clinic preparations. You will liaise with other services to manage the booking of patient appointments prior to treatments and undertake pre-assessments necessary to measure the safe prescribing of SACT; i.e. measuring and recording heights and weights, blood pressures, urinalysis and ECG’s.

The post holder will also be proficient in venepuncture.

The post holder will also be expected to access patient records and results system plus be willing to work both social and unsocial hours (excluding night shifts).

The candidate must be able to recognise and escalate care required for a deteriorating patient. This role requires flexibility to meet service demands, including Sunday working.

Main duties of the job

The Pre-SACT hub team

Contributes to the delivery of outstanding patient care by:

• Managing all referrals to the pre-SACT hub within 48 hours, 7 days a week; ensuring all appointments are manged for the duration of treatment
• Ensuring patients receive a positive experience throughout their involvement with pre-SACT hub ensuring patients are given opportunity to provide feedback
• Ensure all patients are on the correct pathway for bloods according to referral details
• To manage and run daily working of the pre-SACT hub which includes running the service at the weekends

• Maintain patient and staff confidentiality at all times. 2. Under the direction of qualified nursing staff assist with the delivery of individual programmes of care, undertaking duties as delegated by qualified members of the nursing team. 3. Communicate all relevant information concerning the patient’s needs/cares to the appropriate qualified nurse responsible for the patient. 4. Contribute to effective communication in the department by assisting with appropriate administration duties. 5. Work with colleagues to promote a conducive environment by assisting in the control of infection; having an awareness of current practices/policies and participating in decontamination duties. 6. Work with colleagues to promote the development of the department philosophy, nursing model and agreed service objectives. 7. Work with colleagues to develop clinical expertise and continually improve standards of nursing practice. Maintain good working relationships with other members of staff. 8. Liaise and communicate relevant information to other members of the multidisciplinary team. 9. Assist in developing a therapeutic and compassionate environment and meets the needs of patients. 10. Be familiar and comply at all times with relevant operational, personnel, health & safety policies, procedures and protocols applicable to the post. 11. Ensuring that all standard operating procedures are clearly adhered to and escalated to nurse in charge if required Clinically Effective Services The post holder will: 1. Acknowledge patients/relatives concerns and complaints, resolving these locally if possible and referring on to the appropriate colleagues as required. 2. Assist in the reporting of incidents. 3. Work as a member of the nursing team to ensure that nursing care is clinically effective and complying with the requirements of the Trust’s Clinical Governance Committee. 4. Be aware and supportive of research and audit undertaken by other members of the multidisciplinary team and assist in the implementation of findings. 5.Assist the Macmillan Lead Chemotherapy Nurse in any audits or projects that may be relevant to the pre-SACT hub
