Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Pharmacy Department at The RUH as a Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician. This is a two-year fixed-term programme starting September 2026. The role is full-time, with part-time applications (minimum 30 hours) considered. You'll work a 7-day rota between 8:00am and 6:00pm, including weekends and bank holidays.

To qualify via the apprenticeship route, you must:

  • have the right to work in the UK • have been ordinarily resident in the UK for the past three years (excluding student visas) • hold a visa that permits work and apprenticeship training (study visas are not eligible) • gain new knowledge and skills beyond prior qualifications • have sufficient time left on your visa to complete the programme • not be undertaking another government-funded training programme

Applicants without Grade 4/C in English or Maths may apply if willing to complete Functional Skills.

Those with overseas qualifications must obtain a UK ENIC statement before applying.

Main duties of the job

The purpose of the Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician role is to:

  • undertake a two-year apprenticeship resulting in professional registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) as a Pharmacy Technician upon completion.
  • complete all assignments, educational tasks to deadlines in order to satisfy the requirements for qualification and registration as a Pharmacy Technician, in line with the standards set by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • build competency portfolios and gather workplace evidence.
  • work towards and pass the End Point Assessment as defined by the apprenticeship standards.
  • work as a fully functional member of the pharmacy team.
  • undertake all duties mentioned in the job description under the supervisor of a senior colleague and educational supervisor.
  • follow local policies and procedures at all times.
  • work across a seven-day rota between the hours of 8am and 6pm, including weekends and bank holidays. (Please note, rotas are planned in advance, with consideration of individual circumstances and reasonable adjustments.)
