An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Registered Nurse to join the Gynaecology Pre-operative Assessment department. We are a busy department providing care for patients awaiting elective gynaecological surgery.
We are looking for a motivated, critical thinker who can bring their knowledge and skills to the team and deliver the best care to our patients. The role will be for a Nurse in the department to provide care and effectively assess patients in readiness for surgery, working within the wider MDT.
Main duties of the job
- To undertake preoperative assessment of patients requiring elective gynecological surgery including:
- Health Assessment
- Providing advice & information to patients by explanation of planned procedures to include surgery, admission & nursing care
- Phlebotomy
- Recording and interpretation of ECG
- Review of investigations results and escalating abnormal results
- To ensure that all patients receive all information at an appropriate level to enable them to give informed consent.
- Refer to anaesthetists as per patient pathway
- Liaising with the surgical admissions team regarding arranging surgery dates.
- Assisting with development of integrating care pathways for elective patients.
- Analysing results and clinical information to determine an individualised plan of care.
- Providing supervision and assistance with the professional development of nursing staff/new starters working in pre-operative assessment department (in accordance to scope of practice).
- To undertake training and maintain own competence required for the position, ensuring all practice is in line with Trust policy.
- To assess the emotional/psychological needs of patients and offer support and counseling as required. Referring to relevant services such as safeguarding for management and support of patients.
- Practice in accordance with guidelines and procedures for the department and Trust, ensuring best practice.
- Working independently and managing time and workload, with the support of leaders.
