The Practice Development Paramedic for Palliative & End of Life Care (EoLC) is a clinical education role responsible for leading, coordinating, and delivering high‑quality pre‑hospital palliative care education across the London Ambulance Service NHS Trust. The post holder works closely with the Macmillan EoLC team and wider stakeholders to improve care quality, reduce variation in outcomes, and support delivery of the Trust’s Clinical Strategy, while promoting compassionate, patient‑centred care.
Main duties of the job
- Lead and deliver pre‑hospital palliative and EoLC education programmes across LAS.
- Design and develop educational resources, including simulation‑based and innovative training approaches.
- Ensure training reflects evidence‑based practice, learning from incidents, complaints, and national guidance
- Collaborate with internal teams and external specialist palliative care providers to enhance education quality.
- Evaluate training programmes and use feedback to drive continuous improvement.
- Support workforce development, including engagement in reflective practice and post‑incident learning.
- Promote understanding of health inequalities and improve equitable access to end‑of‑life care.
- Maintain training records, equipment, and report activity to governance structures.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Strategic Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and deliver education programmes covering clinical and non-clinical skills in pre-hospital palliative care.
- Contribute to the development of EoLC education strategy, including train-the-trainer programmes.
- Collaborate with Clinical Team Managers, Clinical Tutors, and Higher Education Institutions to share best practice.
- Support development of joint education opportunities with specialist palliative care services.
Operational Delivery
- Provide clinical leadership and visibility across the organisation.
- Deliver high-quality education using a range of teaching methods tailored to diverse learning needs.
- Embed a culture of continuous improvement and learning from experience.
- Identify risks and implement corrective actions to achieve objectives.
- Use innovative technologies to enhance education delivery.
- Establish and maintain education networks across LAS and external providers.
Quality, Governance and Improvement
- Participate in education and governance forums, contributing expert advice and sharing learning from incidents and research.
- Design, analyse, and report on evaluation data to drive improvement and provide assurance.
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives relating to palliative and end of life care.
- Ensure education supports safe, effective, and high-quality patient care.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Engage specialist palliative care providers and partners to ensure education reflects best practice and system priorities.
- Incorporate stakeholder feedback to continually improve training and development.
Workforce Development and Education
- Support workforce learning through facilitation of reflective practice and debriefing.
- Deliver training in communication skills, including managing complex and sensitive conversations.
- Promote inclusive education that addresses health inequalities and diverse patient needs.
People and Resource Management
- Act as a professional role model, demonstrating clinical credibility and Trust values.
- Maintain accurate training records and oversee training equipment inventory and maintenance.
- Participate in appraisal, mandatory training, and ongoing professional development.

Experience
Essential
- Significant clinical experience in pre-hospital care delivery
- Leadership experience
- Experience of designing, supporting or evaluating practice development interventions across clinical teams
Desirable
- Formal teaching practice within a clinical setting or in an HEI setting, including delivery of simulation education
- Supporting staff requiring practice improvement programmes to maintain professional standards
Personal Abilities
Essential
- Full UK driving licence
Knowledge and Skills
Essential
- Highly developed paramedic knowledge, underpinned by theory and experience
- High level of knowledge of current palliative and end of life care pre hospital practice
- Interpersonal, organisation and communication skills
- Maintain accurate data records for training
- Value diversity and difference, demonstrating integrity and honesty.
Desirable
- Plan, teach, deliver pre-hospital palliative and end of life care training to a range of professionals involved in pre-hospital palliative and end of life care
- Knowledge of clinical governance issues
Qualifications, Accreditations, Education

- Current HCPC registration as registered paramedic
- Graduate qualification BSc/equivalent relevant to professional discipline

- Postgraduate qualification in education

- Postgraduate qualification in palliative care
