Post CCT Fellow - Gynaecological Endoscopy

Applications are invited for a Fellowship in Advanced Gynaecological Endoscopy, with a focus on laparoscopy and hysteroscopy. The successful candidate will also contribute to the general obstetrics and gynaecology service, including second on-call cover for obstetrics and emergency gynaecolog

This full-time post is initially available for one year. The department is vibrant, with several consultants who have expertise in advanced laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery. The post would ideally suit a candidate seeking to develop specialist skills and/or gain a qualification in advanced gynaecological endoscopy. A suitable RCOG Special Interest Training Module may be available to an appropriately qualified candidate. The department participates in major national trials relating to gynaecological endoscopy and endometriosis, and active involvement in research, publications and clinical audit will be encouraged.

The department performs a comprehensive range of laparoscopic hysterectomies and provides multidisciplinary treatment for advanced endometriosis. It has well-established chronic pelvic pain and endometriosis services and has been a BSGE-recognised Endometriosis Centre since 2016. The department is also the regional centre for transcervical fibroid ablation using the Sonata system

Main duties of the job

Gynaecology services are delivered across the University Hospital of North Tees and the University Hospital of Hartlepool, which are situated 15 miles apart. The successful candidate will be expected to work at both sites. The consultant-led delivery suite, emergency gynaecology service and elective inpatient gynaecology service are based at the University Hospital of North Tees. The University Hospital of Hartlepool serves as the surgical hub for day-case procedures, including elective day-case hysterectomy and pelvic floor surgery, as well as outpatient services.

The successful candidate will be expected to participate actively in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

Applicants must hold MRCOG and, ideally, a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or have experience and skills equivalent to those of an ST5+ trainee in general obstetrics and gynaecology. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct clinics independently and undertake emergency surgical procedures. The post will provide extensive opportunities for training in advanced endoscopic surgery.
