Main duties of the job
As a Bank Porter & Driver, you'll play a key role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the hospital, ensuring patients, staff and departments receive timely and professional support. Your responsibilities will include transporting patients safely within the hospital, delivering medical equipment and supplies, driving hospital vehicles for collections and deliveries, and assisting clinical and non-clinical teams with general porter duties.
This role requires someone who is organised, physically active, and able to remain calm and professional in a busy healthcare environment. You'll be expected to provide excellent customer service at all times, maintain high standards of safety and confidentiality, and work flexibly across day and night shifts as part of our bank team.

Job responsibilities
As a Bank Porter & Driver, you will be responsible for supporting the efficient day-to-day running of the hospital by providing a safe, reliable and professional porter and transport service. Working as part of the wider hospital team, you will help ensure patients, clinicians and departments receive the support they need to deliver outstanding care.
- Safely transport patients to and from wards, theatres, outpatient clinics and diagnostic departments.
- Provide a courteous, compassionate and reassuring service to patients and visitors at all times.
- Drive hospital vehicles to collect and deliver equipment, medical supplies, specimens, documents and other essential items.
- Complete external collections and deliveries as required, ensuring items are transported securely and confidentially.
- Assist with the movement, delivery and storage of medical equipment, furniture and supplies throughout the hospital.
- Prepare clinical areas and treatment rooms by moving equipment as requested.
- Respond promptly to porter requests from clinical and non-clinical departments.
- Ensure hospital vehicles are kept clean, roadworthy and report any maintenance issues immediately.
- Carry out daily vehicle safety checks before use.
- Support with waste disposal and linen movements in accordance with infection prevention procedures.
- Follow all manual handling, health and safety and infection control policies.
- Maintain patient dignity, privacy and confidentiality at all times.
- Report incidents, accidents, hazards or maintenance issues promptly.
- Work flexibly across day, evening and night shifts as required.
- Assist colleagues across departments during busy periods to maintain excellent patient service.
- Accurately complete any documentation relating to deliveries, collections and transport activities.
- Full, clean UK driving licence.
- Enhanced DBS certificate.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Reliable, punctual and professional approach to work.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Good level of physical fitness, with the ability to undertake manual handling duties.
- Flexible approach to working bank shifts, including nights and weekends where required.
- Previous experience as a Porter, Driver, Hospital Porter, Healthcare Assistant or in a customer-facing role.
