Job summary

We are looking for an experienced Water Technician to join our Estates team and play a key role in maintaining a safe, reliable and effective hospital environment.

Main duties of the job

This is a key role focused on ensuring the safety, compliance and operational effectiveness of the hospital's water systems. Working within a busy healthcare environment, you will play a critical part in maintaining patient safety through effective water hygiene management and Legionella control.

As the Water Technician, you will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, monitoring and compliance of all water systems across the hospital estate. Acting as a designated Competent Person (Water), you will support the Water Safety Group and ensure compliance with legislation, healthcare guidance and best practice.

Job responsibilities

  • Maintaining domestic hot and cold water systems, including tanks, calorifiers, booster pumps, TMVs and pipework.
  • Carrying out water hygiene monitoring, temperature checks, flushing regimes, outlet descaling and disinfection.
  • Managing reactive plumbing repairs and maintenance across the estate.
  • Supporting the Water Safety Plan and Legionella compliance program
  • Assisting with Legionella risk assessments and action management.
  • Maintaining accurate compliance records using CAFM systems.
  • Liaising with specialist contractors and water treatment providers.
  • Participating in the Estates on-call rota.

Person specification

Experience

Essential

  • We are looking for a skilled plumbing professional with a strong understanding of water hygiene and healthcare compliance.
  • City & Guilds Level 2/3 in Plumbing & Domestic Heating or equivalent NVQ qualification.
  • Legionella Awareness Training (City & Guilds, BOHS W3 or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of HTM 04-01 and ACOP L8.
  • Minimum three years' plumbing maintenance experience within a commercial or healthcare environment.
  • Experience carrying out water hygiene monitoring and temperature logging.
  • Strong knowledge of Legionella control, HSG274 and water safety requirements.
  • Good IT skills and experience maintaining accurate compliance records.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
