We are looking for an experienced Plaster Technician to provide casting services in our Outpatient Department and Wards across the Trust.

We require someone to be a resource within the speciality of Plaster Services & casting techniques who will work independently within the subspecialty's scope of practice and supervise and train staff.

Perform a comprehensive range of clinical skills, including assessments, treatment implementation, and review . Provide advice, products, and appliances to individuals independently and in accordance with professional training and scope of practice.
To provide quality application and removal of technical and specialist plastering/splinting and forms of bracing as per instructions from the prescribing Clinician, seeking advice from clinical staff where appropriate
Assist service manager in the running of the plaster room. Maintain and prepare specialist equipment; monitor and manage stock to reduce waste and increase financial efficiency.
Ensure a consistent level of patient care, remain informed about comprehensive aspects of patient health, and support health care education.
To provide education regarding casting and splintage, and offer thorough after-care guidance, including addressing potential patient concerns either in person or via telephone.
Participate in the evaluation of products, comparing costs, functionality, fitness for purpose and uses products and appliances in innovative ways ensuring best practices and treatment protocols are used
To support the development and implementation of new and improving services policies and procedures, within the scope of practice.
Demonstrates clinical skills and competence in performing a range of full casts using plaster of Paris and synthetic materials, including Scaphoid, Bennetts, above elbow, below elbow, below knee, long leg, cylinder, shoulder spica, and slipper casts.
Proficiency with various types of slabs such as volar, U, below elbow, below knee, above knee, and ulna.
Experienced in fitting appliances such as wrist braces, knee braces, and specialist walker boots
To be responsible for the delivery of patient centered care. Maintaining specialist knowledge and clinical skills in areas such as orthopaedic outpatient clinics, rheumatology clinics, diabetic foot services, and casting techniques and products.
Assist the Departmental manager in the provision of clinical and professional advice, expertise, and support, developing practice and monitoring performance
Provide excellent customer service to our patients
Assess the patient's skin before applying and after removing a cast or device and escalate concerns to the registered nurse if needed.
Maintain clear and accurate patient records and documentation, including skin assessments and records of treatments provided.
Communicate (electronically and verbally) and collaborate with all multidisciplinary team members, ensuring effective coordination with relevant departments
To maintain professional and personal development by attending courses and training as required by the post including mandatory updates and being aware of current advances in Casting care and, in conjunction with Nursing Team / medical staff, instigate changes as appropriate.
