Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced phlebotomist to join our well-established Nursing Team. The team currently consists of 2 Advanced Care Practitioners, 3 Practice Nurses, 1 Nurse Associate and 4 Healthcare Assistants. We are looking for an enthusiastic and caring phlebotomist to further enhance the team and join our busy but friendly GP practice. A team player with good clinical skills an an interest in further training and personal development are vital.

Main duties of the job

You will work under the direct supervision of the practice nurse leads and will follow specific practice guidelines and protocols at all times. You will be responsible for performing venepuncture to obtain blood samples from patients that have been booked directly into your clinic for diagnostic testing. Key duties include preparing patients for blood draws, ensuring correct labelling and handling of samples, maintaining accurate records, and following infection control and safety procedures. The role requires excellent patient care skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively within the nursing team. Administrative support tasks may also be required, depending on thepractice needs.

Job responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities:

Obtaining patient consent for the collection of blood ssample.

Performing venepuncture in accordance with practice protocols.

Maintaining accurate patient records.

The correct labelling, packaging and storing of samples.

Ensuring samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner.

Working collaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary for patient related matters.

Secondary Responsibilities:

Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery with patient care.

Support and participate in shared learning within the practice.

Administrative support tasks may also be required, depending on the practice needs.
